Franklin 9-year-old looks to become ‘Youth Athlete of the Year’
CBS 58 FRANKLIN, Wis. (CBS 58) – A Franklin 9-year-old athlete is currently competing for “Youth Athlete of the Year.”

Damian Wroblewski is an elementary school hockey and baseball player. His mother, Joanna Wroblewski, says he loves working hard, supporting his teammates, and becoming a better person.
“I just like running the bases, catching the ball, scoring and being a good teammate on the ice,” Damian Wroblewski said.
“He is very competitive. When he decides on something, he’s going for it,” Joanna Wroblewski said.
The Youth Athlete of the Year is a nationwide competition hosted by Russell Wilson. The grand prize includes $25,000, a feature in a 3BRAND national advertising campaign, an appearance on CBS and in Sports Illustrated, and an opportunity to raise money for Wilson’s nonprofit, the Why Not You Foundation.

Joanna Wroblewski one of the things that makes her especially proud of her son is that he wants other children to have the same opportunity to participate in sports, even when their families may struggle with the cost. She says if Damian is fortunate enough to win, he hopes his experience can help bring attention and support to youth hockey and help more children have the opportunity to play the sport they love.
“If we can have people help him get through top five by voting and supporting the charity, that would be great,” Joanna Wroblewski said.
The contest progresses through multiple stages: Top 20 (Aug. 17–27), Top 15 (Aug. 27–Sept. 3), Top 10 (Sept. 3–10), Top 5 (Sept. 10–17), Group Finals (Sept. 17–24), and a Wildcard Round (Sept. 25–27),
