Cooler by the lake returns this weekend
SLINGER, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Hometown auto racing fans are heading up to Slinger Speedway for one of the signature events of the season -- the Slinger Nationals.
Tuesday's feature race for late model stock cars features a very interesting story.
Fifteen-year-old Penn Sauter will be trying to compete in the 200-lap, 50-mile race against his father, Johnny Sauter, who's been racing since the 1980s.
Penn says it's not unusual for racers to start at a young age, and anyone who follows auto racing knows that the sport is often passed down from fathers to sons.
We asked Penn about the possibility of finishing ahead of his dad.
"That's the goal," he said. "It's just gonna play out. Who can, you know -- if you run all 200 laps, you got a good shot at it."
The field for the feature race will include more than 20 cars.
Drivers have been practicing, qualifying and meeting throughout the day.
Opening ceremonies at Slinger Speedway begin at 6:20 Tuesday night.
