WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- There’s been a steady stream of customers coming into Sam’s Club in West Allis Friday on the store's last day but many of the customers are coming out empty handed.
This Sam’s Club location is one of dozens being shut down across the country. A store in Madison is the only other Wisconsin Sam’s Club closing.
Communications for Walmart, which owns Sam's Club, says the company is focusing on e-commerce and remodeling and reinvesting in technology.
165 people who work at the West Allis Sam’s Club will not have a job after Friday but Sam's Club is working with employees to transfer them to other locations.
Customers tell CBS 58 that inside the store is slim pickings, "There were eye glasses, cup lids, books, windshield wipers, not very much to choose from," said Anita Bitz.
"I’m very upset that this Sam’s Club is closing. It’s closer to my house and I’ve been here a long time coming to Sam’s Club and I’m just not happy about it but I’m hoping to get some good deals," said Ernestina Hernandez.
The store will officially close at 6 p.m. Friday night.
