Update: The deceased operator of the van involved in this crash has been identified as Peter Thomas Marsalek.
Marsalek was 21 years old and a resident of Antioch, Illinois.
The driver of a van that collided with a school bus in Kenosha County Friday morning has died. According to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office, the van collided with the rear-end of a school bus as it was stopped to pick up a student at Kenosha County Road C just west of Highway 83 in the Village of Salem Lakes.
A news release from the Sheriff’s Office said the school bus was traveling to Westosha Central High School when it was hit by the van.
A representative from the Westosha School District tells CBS 58 that there were 19 students on board. 3 of those students suffered minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The remaining students were transported to the Trevor Fire Department to be released to parents and guardians for the day.
Kenosha County Highway C is reopened after 10 Friday morning.
The driver of the van has been identified as a 21-year-old man. According to the sheriff, the van was for a tile and flooring company. It's believed the driver was delivering a countertop.
The sheriff's office has not said what caused the crash. There is no indication of alcohol being a factor in the accident.
