MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A driver police say was being chased blew through a red light and caused a serious crash near Sherman and Hampton early Monday, Sept. 7. The aftermath left many neighbors shocked and asking drivers to slow down.

Milwaukee police say around 7:30 a.m., the driver of a red car was being chased by a known suspect at a high rate of speed. The driver, traveling westbound, disregarded a stop light and struck a white car traveling northbound near Sherman and Hampton.

The occupants of both vehicles were taken to area hospitals for treatment. The driver of the white vehicle was in serious condition.

Neighbors say this intersection isn’t new to crashes.
“It’s so crazy to see this happen,” says Ana Thompson, who lives in the area. “There was one car here and another over there. It’s just so weird. People drive all crazy and stuff and you never know what people are going to do. That’s why you've got to watch out for yourself and others out here.”

"Every day is something different, but this one is kind of crazy, up on the tree the way it is,” says Ricky Simmons, who also lives in the area. “We just ask that people slow down out here.”

Police say this is an ongoing investigation. They say they’re looking for a known suspect who was chasing after the red vehicle, but they did not give a description.
