MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- There was a show of unity between cops and kids Friday, to honor the memory of fallen MPD Officer Corder.
Kingdom Church hosted its annual Cops vs. Kids kickball game at Cooper Park.
The church's lead pastor says it's an effort to build bridges between young people and the men and women in blue, and to forge connections like Officer Corder did during his six years of service to the community.
"I met him once. I worked at Boys and Girls Club for 10 years," said Troy Colton, Jr., lead pastor at Kingdom Church. "Great young man. We want to honor him and let his family know we are here for them as well, as a community. We want to partner with law enforcement when they show up, we want to make sure we're doing our best to make their job easier rather than harder, because our communities need to be protected."
A number of officers from Corder's District 2 police station were on hand for Friday's game and celebration.
