Racine babysitter charged with abusing 5-month-old girl

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A babysitter in Racine is now charged with two counts of child abuse.

According to the criminal complaint, Kristin Kreiman, 26, allegedly abused a 5-month-old baby who was in her care between April and May of 2018.

The parents of the infant took her to the doctor for concerns over an injury to her arm. An x-ray revealed that the infant suffered fractures to the forearm which are generally caused by an impact or bending of the bone. According to the hospital, the injuries are not consistent with normal care and handling of a non-mobile infant.

Kreiman allegedly said that the baby must have laid on her arm wrong.

The infant's parents told police that a month prior to the arm injury, Kreiman allegedly told them that their daughter "bopped" a wooden teething toy into her mouth. The mother observed an injury to the frenulum and bleeding to the mouth and gum area.

According to the criminal complaint, the parents also observed bruises to the infant's cheek and temple area at different times.

Kreiman allegedly said that bruising was caused when the infant was thrashing around in her jumper and hit her head on the side of it.

Kreiman will have her Preliminary Hearing on October 3.
