Pianist Haskell Small to celebrate recovery with Milwaukee performance
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Pianist Haskell Small is set to perform at Milwaukee's Charles Allis Art Museum on Saturday, Nov. 18, as part of his "Celebration of Healing" tour. This concert follows Small's recovery from a severe stroke in 2021, which temporarily paralyzed his left hand and foot and threatened his career.
Small faced a critical turning point in his life and career in 2021, with the aftermath of a stroke leading to a period of rehabilitation and reevaluation of his artistic journey.
Reflecting on this experience in a recent press release, Small said, "To go from thinking my career might be over, to touring the country with one of the most demanding and sublime works in the repertoire has become a life-saving journey."
His works have been performed at venues across the United States, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. His discography includes a range of pieces from classical composers and his own compositions.
The Nov. 18 performance is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. and will feature Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations, a piece renowned for its complexity and emotion. Tickets are available through the Charles Allis Art Museum's website, priced at $25.
