Phase 2 of Summerfest's American Family Insurance Amphitheater construction underway
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Summerfest's American Family Insurance Amphitheater is getting a makeover. Phase two of construction is now underway with its focus being the fans.
“Phase two is all about access and trying to find ways to give our patrons better access in and out of the amphitheater," said Jason Stuewe, Milwaukee World Festival.
The project will allow for better seating and views for concert-goers. More concourse space, bathrooms and concessions will shorten lines and wait times. There will also be a new elevator to improve accessibility.

Phase one of construction was complete at the beginning of this summer. It included raising the roof to create more space for production and add dressing rooms for artists and bands.
“We want people to feel comfortable here, we want them to have a good time, we want the experience to be positive and we want them to come back," said Bob Gosse, Milwaukee World Festival director of design and construction.
The more than $50 million project is being privately funded.
It is expected to be complete by June 1, 2020.
