MILWAUKEE (CBS 58)--As we gear up for boating season this weekend, one staggering statistic should loom in the back of your mind. It's reported four out of five drowning deaths happened because the person wasn't wearing a life jacket! The folks at the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center say a preserver is mandatory if you're sailing with them. Also, a face mask and gloves are also required as we're still in this pandemic. There's also a safety kit onboard for each boat. The experts say all these items shouldn't take away from having any fun at all.
During this health crisis, the sailing center is also doing away with group activities. The center, by the way, officially opens next Wednesday, May 27th. To find out what this non profit has to offer in terms of boating or if you want to become a member, just click here.
