Oneida Co. Detective Under Investigation for Misconduct

RHINELANDER, Wis. (WSAW) -- The Oneida County Sheriff's Department confirms Detective Sergeant Sara [Gardner] Welcenbach is on unpaid leave following an investigation into misconduct and allegations she took money from confidential funds from 2010 to 2014.

Welcenbach, 40, is a Detective Sergeant in charge of the Drug Unit.

Sheriff Grady Hartman said the money allegedly taken was allocated to be used for undercover drug buys.

The Wood County, Portage County and Attorney General's office are investigating the case.

Online court records show the state has filed two counts of misconduct in office, however, a future court date has not yet been set.
