One Lucky Red-Tailed Hawk Is Free to Fly Again

One special red-tailed hawk has a new taste of freedom this Earth Day. \"Sharkey\" was released into the wild earlier Wednesday after being treated for a severe foot injury.

A West Allis woman noticed this protected bird of prey had been hobbling around her yard for a few days in February so she called for help.  The Wildlife Rehabilitation Center at the Wisconsin Humane Society stepped in to assist.

And after a few months of rehab, those caring for her knew it was time to let her go.  It took a second for her to take off.  And when she did, she ended up perched high in a nearby tree until other birds chased her away.

\"Sharkey\" is actually tagged on one of her legs, so she can be tracked in case she runs into trouble again.
