New lights illuminate St. Josaphat Basilica

MILWAUKEE-They flipped the switch on more than 100 LED lanterns at St. Josaphat Basilica Tuesday night.

It was a month long, $230,000 project made possible through donations from a variety of sources from local business people to corporations.

The 112 year old historical landmark can now be seen in a whole new light, especially the bell tower, portico and visitors center.

The project was for both historical enhancement and the safety of visitors.

As rector Michael Glastetter put it, \"Particularly safety for nighttime events. In the winter time we want an opportunity to welcome visitors and show concern for their safety and protection as well.\"

The Basilica Foundation hopes to kick of a $500,000 fund raising initiative to light the Basilica's dome.
