National volunteers honored in Milwaukee

National volunteers were honored Tuesday in Milwaukee.  Dozens gathered at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee on Sherman Boulevard.  Speakers thanked those who work for the greater good of others.

The day is put together by the Corporation for National & Community Service. The agency invests more than $7.5 million in projects in Milwaukee. Some of those include City Year, College Possible, and Boys & Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee. Many city and county leaders were on hand to thank those in attendance. Milwaukee County executive Chris Abele says he's seen how these programs help first hand.

\"I've watched kids go from thinking, why should I even bother with high school to graduating 4.0, going full-ride through college, going to law school,\" Abele said.  \"Having success and then coming back here and telling kids don't think you can't do anything, you can do anything you want to do.\"
