Nate Snead starts professional baseball journey

CBS 58

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- "Literally, this is the only thing we have to focus on, is baseball."

Nate Snead is living the dream.

"I get to go play baseball when I wake up in the morning. That's pretty cool to say."

No more classes, no more homework. Just baseball for the South Milwaukee native.

The Angels took Nate and his 101 mile-per-hour fastball with a day one pick in last month's MLB Draft. Things moved quickly from there. Less than a week later, Nate was in Arizona at the Angels facility.

"It's pretty straightforward here. We get up early, we get to the field early and get our stuff done. We do a lot of work in the 4-6 hours we're there in the morning but after that, it's whatever we want to do. It's a lot of fun."

With the minor league season almost over, Nate likely won't make his pro debut this season. Instead, he's looking closely at some of the major leaguers who are in Arizona rehabbing, so that when he gets started for real, he'll be ready.

"What do you guys do on the road, or hotels, or food? Stuff like that. I like to pick their brain so that hopefully one day, if I get called up, I'm not cold turkey. I'll have a feel for what I know the pro lifestyle is."

The pro lifestyle Nate plans to live for a long time.
