The contagious virus typically starts with a fever and overall body aches in addition to a loss of appetite. The swelling of the salivary glands follows.
If you were born in 1957 or before, chances are you have natural immunity to the mumps virus. But if you’re younger, or have any doubt you had the series of shots, doctors say there’s no danger in getting re-immunized. And if you want to look at your immunization records, you should contact the health department from the state you were born.
