Milwaukee Teen Held after Chase Reaches 97 mph

On Saturday, December 26 at approximately 10:50 AM Fond du Lac Sheriff’s deputies were informed that a stolen vehicle which had previously been involved in a pursuit in Winnebago County was now southbound on I-41 approaching Fond du Lac County.

The vehicle was passing vehicles on the right and left shoulders at high rates of speed. A Wisconsin State Police trooper was observing the vehicle and reporting its location.

A Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputy observed this vehicle traveling southbound on I-41 near County Highway N at 97 mph, the vehicle was passing other vehicles on the shoulder. The Deputy initiated a traffic stop and the vehicle failed to stop, the deputy pursued the vehicle south on I-41. The vehicle continued southbound, passing vehicles on the right and left shoulders, traveling at a high rate of speed.

Just south of Fond du Lac, a Sheriff’s Office Supervisor was set up to deploy stop sticks, in an attempt to deflate the tires of the vehicle being pursued. The suspect was driving on the left shoulder passing vehicles, the driver made a quick maneuver to the right, lost control of the vehicle and entered the median.

The driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, fled on foot and was taken into custody approximately a mile away by Sheriff’s Deputies and State Troopers.

The vehicle started a small grass fire under the vehicle, Oakfield Fire Department was called to extinguish the fire. The suspect was taken to St Agnes Hospital by paramedics where he was treated and released.

The suspect, a 19-year-old male from Milwaukee is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on charges related to this incident.
