MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Staff at Carmen Southgate noticed a gas smell inside the building before students arrived on Monday, Sept. 28. No students went inside, according to a statement from Carmen Schools of Science and Technology.

Students were directed to a safe spot outside while We Energies responded to assess the situation. No injuries were reported. As a precaution, students were sent home, and the school switched to asynchronous learning for the rest of the day.

The school said it will update families as it learns more. The source of the smell has not been released.
