MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Public Museum has scheduled the first of five "Greatest Hits" exhibit celebrations Saturday, Jan. 10 as part of its final year before moving to a new building.

The Ancient Civilizations celebration runs Jan. 10 through Feb. 14 and highlights the Ancient Egypt exhibit, Crossroads of Civilization, as well as other ancient cultures throughout the museum.

According to a Tuesday, Jan. 6 press release from the museum, Saturday's kickoff includes hands-on demonstrations of ancient Egyptian mummification using life-size models and education stations about the Maya civilization.

Ancient civilization-themed story times and activities for young children will be available throughout the day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The museum is hosting an after-hours, adults-only food and wine event Thursday, Jan. 29 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. that takes guests on a culinary exploration of ancient civilizations. The finale celebration is Saturday, Feb. 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

MPM President and CEO Dr. Ellen Censky said Crossroads of Civilization has been a fan favorite since it opened in 2015 as the last permanent exhibit created in the current building.

The museum's official last day to visit is Jan. 3, 2027 before it becomes the Nature & Culture Museum of Wisconsin.
