Milwaukee Post Office warns about e-mail scam

MILWAUKEE --  The Milwaukee Postmaster is warning residents about an e-mail scam targeting Americans. The new scam's end result is to give download malicious software onto your computer.

According to the U.S. Postal Service, the e-mail claims to have information about an attempted or intercepted package delivery. The e-mail instructs customers to click on a link to find out when they can expect delivery. When you click on this link, a virus is downloaded to your computer. 

This virus can steal information from your computer like your name, password, and financial information. 

The U.S. Postal Service says you should just delete the message without taking any further action. 

Milwaukee Postmaster Easton C. Wright also offers these tips on spotting scam emails:

• The text contains poor grammar or spelling errors. 


• The text states immediate action must be taken or customer could face dire consequences. 


• The email requests personal information under the guise of re-confirming information. 


• The text from an “automated message system” states “Click on this link for details.”
