MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Milwaukee city leaders and community activists came together on Thursday to celebrate environmentally friendly projects in one city neighborhood.
A ribbon cutting was held by the neighborhood-based nonprofit, Walnut Way Conservation Corp., to celebrate the completion of green infrastructure and clean energy projects in the Lindsay Heights neighborhood.
The projects include water retention systems and solar installations. It was made possible by a national initiative that supports community based climate resilience.
"This is something that is a priority for us, we believe this increases and improves the quality of life in our city,” Milwaukee mayor Tom Barrett said. “I think it gives more economic opportunities for jobs and that is what this is all about.”
More than 15 local organizations partnered to make the projects possible.
