"The Art of Dr. Seuss" exclusive exhibit coming to gallery in Whitefish Bay, featuring rare works for purchase
Gallery 505 WHITEFISH BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- From Green Eggs and Ham to The Cat in the Hat to The Lorax, beloved children's author and cartoonist Dr. Seuss was a large part of multiple generation's childhoods.
Now, you're getting the chance to see -- and even buy -- rare and estate-authorized works, thanks to a new exclusive exhibit coming to Gallery 505 in Whitefish Bay.
While the majority of the public knows him as Dr. Seuss, Jes Stiner, the manager for the National Gallery Accounts for The Art of Dr. Seuss, said Theodor Geisel was a man who wore many hats.
“He had a knack for finding universal truths whether it was a painting that he did for himself to reflect how he was feeling at the time or a book that he was writing to teach us his wisdom," Stiner told CBS 58's Ellie Nakamoto-White.
The exhibit will feature illustrations, paintings, sculptures and more from his works that go even beyond the pages of his famous books.
Every piece will be available for acquisition and has an authorized Dr. Seuss Estate signature with a certificate of authenticity.
“Every different piece has a message, a universal truth and what’s great about discovering the art of Dr. Seuss, is we have such a wide variety in terms of the assortment that’s on view," Stiner said. “Not only are you going to see the concept artworks that led to the most famous books that we all know... you’re going to see his personal paintings. The secret art of Dr. Seuss.”
It's an intimate look inside of his mind and Stiner said he hopes attendees will feel the influence of the art.
“There’s going to be something that resonates with you personally about your journey whether it’s about perseverance or about absorbing life and what’s around you like a sponge, there’s going to be something that hits you," Stiner said. “Learn some lessons, learn a little bit about him and leave with a smile, honestly. This is about being art that makes you happy and we all need a little bit of that.”
Gallery 505 will hold an opening night celebration on May 29 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The exhibit will be on display until June 30.
