SOUTH MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A local artist is stepping up to cover vandalism in multiple spots in Oak Creek Parkway.

"The main goal is to just cover up gross graffiti in common spaces, so everyone can enjoy looking at it," said Courtney Adkins, president of Strong Towns South Milwaukee.

Milwaukee artist, Courtney Adkins loves walking her dogs along her favorite trail at Oak Creek Parkway in South Milwaukee.

"I'm always walking my girls through here, probably multiple times a day," said Adkins.

So, when graffiti started appearing along the path, she along with many others found it to be an eyesore.

"There was a lot of profanity and bright blue that I was looking at multiple times a day and my neighbors and I just thought it would be cool to have something there that we wanted to look at," said Adkins.

Courtney decided to take action and put her creative skills to the test, covering up the graffiti with art inspired by nature and her very own furry friends.

"It's been really cool over the past couple of weeks walking around the park," said Adkins. "Theres a lot of kids playing around and they’ve actually thanked me for making the artwork too and I think they want to be involved as well."

Adkins is the president of Strong Towns South Milwaukee, a non-profit working to make positive changes in their community.

"We do have bigger goals, but we are also just focused on small things that anyone can do to improve the community," said Adkins. "We are making benches for bus stops, covering up gross graffiti, arranging garbage pick-ups here."

She says this is just the beginning for this project.

"There are more footbridges here around the Oak Creek that I plan on painting where there is graffiti under the bridges and I had some people reach out for me to paint their yard fences and stuff," said Adkins.
