Milwaukee County suspends tablet messaging at Community Reintegration Center
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- County Executive David Crowley directed the Community Reintegration Center to turn off all tablet messaging features effective immediately until more safeguards are in place to protect victims, according to a statement Monday, Oct. 12.
Crowley also called on the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, which oversees the county jail, to do the same for tablets there.
"I will not tolerate victim harassment or witness intimidation," Crowley said in the Monday statement.
The statement says the County Executive's Office investigated with the MCSO, the CRC, the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office and others involved in tablet operations and is working on a permanent plan to prevent misuse.
County officials will reportedly keep meeting with the tablet vendor, IC Solutions, on stricter rules that would let residents use the tablets again to stay in touch with loved ones. In the meantime, residents can still use phone calls, video visitation and in-person visits.
