MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A major step was taken in Milwaukee Tuesday to help provide support for local fathers and their families.
Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley and Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson-Bovell announced $5 million in funding for the FORGE Fatherhood Services program.
FORGE is part of the county's Department of Health and Human Services and focuses on providing financial support for fathers and promoting responsible fatherhood.
"It's not just about financial stability, it's about how do they care for their children, how do they communicate with their children, and how do they provide opportunities for themselves and their families," Crowley said.
The $5 million in funding will be administered to the FORGE program over the ne xt several years.
Tuesday's event was put on in recognition of the Week of the Young Child -- a time dedicated to recognizing the needs of young children and promoting early learning.
