Driver dies, another hurt after head-on crash and fire in Mount Pleasant
CBS 58 MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A driver died and another was seriously injured after a two-vehicle crash and fire near Spring Street and Borgardt Road on Sunday evening, Aug. 16, according to the Mount Pleasant Police Department.
Officers responded at around 4:30 p.m. to find a Ford F-150 and Jeep Wrangler involved in a crash, with one vehicle on fire and an occupant trapped inside, police say. Officers and another person who stopped to help used fire extinguishers to put out the fire, and Good Samaritans extricated the Jeep's driver, who was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
The F-150's driver remained trapped inside the vehicle. Despite lifesaving efforts from officers and the South Shore Fire Department, that driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials believe the Jeep was traveling west in the westbound lanes when the F-150, traveling east, crossed completely into the westbound lanes, causing a head-on collision.
