MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Medical College of Wisconsin is receiving a $100,000 grant from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation to expand research on sickle cell disease patients with COVID-19.
According to a press release, the grant will help expand a secure, rapid-response surveillance registry. The registry will help provide information into any associations between SCD and COVID-19.
Prior studies have shown people with SCD have higher mortality rates from influenza and are at increased risk, according to MCW.
