MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- An easy way to help prevent gun injuries and deaths is to simply put locks on your guns.
Today, the city of Milwaukee accepted a donation of 1,000 gun locks from the Master Lock Company.
The keyed locks can be placed over the trigger guard of a gun to prevent it from firing.
This is the second year the city has provided free gun locks to Milwaukee residents in the effort to encourage safe storage.
It's an important reminder, especially around the holiday season.
"As we head into the holiday season, as families and children will be over, we want to make sure our homes are as safe as possible for everybody, especially our youngest children," said Office of Violence Prevention Director Reggie Moore.
The locks will be distributed to various community organizations.
