The Marquette University campus will soon go smoke-free!
Starting August 1st, smoking is banned not only in the buildings but outside on the campus as well.
The ban covers all kinds of smoking products including electronic cigarettes. You will be able to smoke on city streets just off campus.
We asked university officials what would happen if someone was caught smoking. "Mostly we're going to rely on peer consequences, in other words, gentle pressure, gentle educational efforts, reinforcement of the verbal policy instead of any direct negative consequences like fines or anything like that," said Dr. Robin Brown.
If gentle pressure does not work, Doctor Brown says they could add "other measures."
