MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee County Sheriff Earnell Lucas got his first coronavirus shot Wednesday, Jan. 20.
Law enforcement officers are now being vaccinated in Wisconsin and the sheriff calls it the next step in what has been a "long national nightmare."
This week, the vaccine is reaching law enforcement agencies all over the state, and a CBS 58 crew was on the scene in Cudahy as the police chief rolled up his sleeve for the vaccine.
Local health departments are coordinating the distribution of the vaccine to departments like Cudahy's, and the chief is fully on board.
"I felt that getting the COVID-19 vaccine was the right thing for me," said Chief Thomas Poellot. "And anything that we can do to enhance the safety of first responders, I wanted to get behind."
