Len Bias Case in Milwaukee Points to Possible Heroin Epidemic

(Milwaukee)--It’s six years of hard time behind bars for a Milwaukee woman who killed her friend by supplying him with heroin.

In the eyes of the law, more specifically the Len Bias Law, 24-year old Rachel Huberty is guilty because she gave him the lethal dose, even though she didn’t physically inject him with it. She recently pled guilty to the crime. Authorities used text messages to connect her to 22-year old Zachary Couillard’s death in May of last year.

Presiding judge David Borowski made it a point to showcase how heroin is now an epidemic in the city of Milwaukee with close to 250 overdose cases last year alone.

Huberty was sentenced to six years in prison followed by six years of extensive supervision, including community service.
