MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Local community leaders and activists gathered to call for an end to violence in Milwaukee.
They put out the message that there is strength in numbers.
They called on people to talk about the violence that happens almost daily in Milwaukee -- hoping the conversation will spur change.
One organizer at the rally told us events like these are only part of the process in reducing violence.
"It's going to take all of us, it's not just one entity or one event, it's gonna be continuous outreach throughout the whole summer and you know, continue going into the schools when school starts back," said activist Tracey Dent.
Another organizer tells us they spent the day handing out literature, knocking on doors to spread their message and giving people gun locks to prevent unintentional shootings.
