Kenosha: Car runs red light causing two crashes, killing Illinois woman

KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Kenosha Police and Wisconsin State Patrols Traffic Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal car crash that happened Saturday, Jan. 9. 

It happened around 11:30 p.m. near Washington Road and 22nd Avenue.

A 36-year-old Illinois resident was driving at the intersection of Washington and 22nd and ran the red traffic control signal while traveling west. This vehicle collided with a northbound vehicle. Police say this collision resulted in a secondary collision with a car being driven east on Washington. The driver of this vehicle, a 27-year-old Illinois resident, died as a result of the crash. 

The operator of the suspect vehicle was taken into custody, as well as a passenger. Charges will be referred to the Kenosha County District Attorney. 

This was not a police pursuit.
