Judge Calls Former Coach a 'Sexual Predator, Hypocrite'

MADISON, Wis. (CHANNEL 3000)- Former West HS girls basketball coach Shelton Kingcade was sentenced to 10 years  in prison Thursday after he was found guilty of repeated sexual assault of his student.

The former coach also must serve eight years of extended supervision.

During the sentencing hearing in Dane County court, Kingcade started crying as he read a statement in court.

Judge William Hanrahan called Kingcade a hypocrite, and said Kingcade was a sexual predator who knew that what he was doing was wrong, and he did it anyway, and repeatedly.

Kingcade, who was a West High School girls basketball coach,  was found guilty of repeated sexual assault of the same child and second-degree sexual assault of a child on May 31. Kingcade repeatedly assaulted a Jefferson Middle School student he was coaching from the time she was 13 until she was 17 years old. The assaults ended in 2001, and the woman contacted police to report the crime in 2015.

Kingcade had faced up to 50 years in prison.
