MILWAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A new highway sign will honor the memory of a beloved Milwaukee community leader. A section of I-43 will become the "Jeannetta Simpson-Robinson Memorial Highway."
We have never bestowed an honor such as this on an African-American woman in this state. We are making history," said Michelle Bryant, chief of staff for State Sen. Lena Taylor.
The sign was unveiled Thursday, Sept. 17.
Jeannetta Simpson-Robinson founded the "Career Youth Development" organization which provided educational and vocational training. She was known as an advocate for non-violence.
On Thursday, friends and relatives shared loving stories. Her grandson told of trips to Chicago, where Simpson-Robinson played Peabo Bryson tunes on repeat.
