MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Cruising in Milwaukee once meant driving your car up and down Wisconsin Avenue. These days, more and more cruise ships are stopping at Port Milwaukee. On Wednesday, June 24, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson was on hand to welcome American Cruise Lines to the port for the first time.

Their ship, named "American Patriot" carries 130 passengers and it represents the company's first ventures on the Great Lakes.

"We're proud Milwaukee has become a top spot, a top destination for Great Lakes itineraries, and American Cruise Lines has a long history of showcasing our country's waterways and connecting travelers with iconic destinations," said Mayor Johnson.

American Cruise Lines has scheduled eight stops in Milwaukee during its first season here, and this makes six cruise lines that stop in Milwaukee.

The American Patriot ship will be in Port Milwaukee until 2 p.m. Thursday.
