MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee city and county leaders say while COVID-19 numbers are heading in the right direction, they're not taking a foot off the gas yet. Milwaukee Interim Health Commissioner Marlaina Jackson announced Tuesday, Feb. 16, the highly contagious UK coronavirus variant has been detected in Milwaukee.
Jackson said it was reported on Jan. 28.
The Milwaukee Health Department is also keeping tabs on businesses.
This past weekend, 32 citations were issued because people weren't wearing masks or social distancing.
"Twice the number in the past, we know and understand that individuals are tending to let up on regular mitigation efforts -- understand those mitigation steps are necessary for us to keep numbers and orders where they are," Jackson said.
Jackson also said there are appointments available this week and next week for those who qualify for the COVID-19 vaccine.
