Habitat for Humanity launches Pope Leo Village Project in Milwaukee
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Habitat for Humanity launched a new housing project in Milwaukee on Friday.
The Pope Leo Village Project will bring seven new homes to the Bronzeville and Harambee neighborhoods.
The project is part of a national initiative funded by an anonymous donor that will provide 250 new homes across 21 cities nationwide. The goal is to expand affordable homeownership opportunities for low- to middle-income families.
Bishop Jeffrey R. Haines, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, blessed the build site in Bronzeville on Friday.
"Let us pray for God's help through this celebration, my brothers and sisters, that he will bring this construction project to successful completion and that his protection will keep those that work on it safe, and that in their work and volunteering efforts, they too will grow in faith and charity. Let us also pray on the blessings of the families that will turn the houses of the Pope Leo Village into homes," Haines said.
After the prayers, people were welcomed to write blessings on the foundation of the home.
