RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) — A 23-year-old Racine man is facing an attempted homicide charge after prosecutors say he shot and stabbed his former girlfriend during a violent confrontation that ended at a Racine auto shop.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by CBS 58, Luke M. Greuel is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide with use of a dangerous weapon, armed burglary and pointing a firearm at another person.

Racine police were called shortly after 9:15 a.m. Aug. 18 to a home near Maryland and Drexel avenues for a report of a man with a gun.

At the residence, officers spoke with Greuel's sister, who said Greuel had left about 15 minutes earlier. She told police Greuel had poured oil and flour on his former girlfriend's vehicle the night before, and the woman retaliated the following morning by smearing dog feces on Greuel's vehicle.

Greuel's sister also told investigators she discovered a gun was missing from her father's gun safe.

While officers were at the residence, other officers located Greuel and the woman at Stu's Auto Service on Washington Avenue, where the woman was reportedly bleeding.

According to the complaint, Greuel surrendered and told officers, "I'm going to jail. I hit her. I have a gun."

Greuel's mother told investigators she had been on FaceTime with him and said he had been feeling suicidal. She said Greuel told her he was going to kill his former girlfriend and then himself. She also reported seeing a firearm equipped with a suppressor and two loaded magazines during the call.

Officers found the woman coming out of the garage with visible injuries and blood coming from her head. She told police she believed she may have been shot.

When an officer asked whether she had been shot, Greuel allegedly interrupted and said, "Yes, I did."

The woman told investigators Greuel had stabbed her in the head with a screwdriver. Police also observed what appeared to be at least one gunshot wound near her upper hip.

She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

An employee at Stu's Auto Service told investigators he saw Greuel chase the woman into the garage while pointing a gun at her. Employees fled because they feared for their safety and then heard what they initially thought was an airsoft gun, which the complaint notes may have sounded quieter because of the suppressor.

When employees returned, one worker said he saw the woman lying on the floor while Greuel was hitting her with a handgun. The employee also told police Greuel pointed the gun at him when he entered the garage.

Investigators reported finding blood on the garage floor, unfired ammunition and spent shell casings. Officers also recovered a blood-covered screwdriver and a firearm with a suppressor modification, according to the complaint.

Investigators later searched the woman's Racine residence and found a broken window with blood droplets on the patio. More blood was found in the kitchen and hallway, along with broken glass on a bedroom mattress and what appeared to be a bullet hole in a curtain covering the window.

After being medically cleared, Greuel agreed to speak with investigators.

He told police he and the woman began dating in February 2026 and said their relationship had recently deteriorated.

According to the complaint, Greuel admitted pouring vegetable oil and flour on the woman's vehicle the night before the attack and calling his mother to tell her he was going to shoot the woman.

Greuel told investigators "things escalated quickly" and said he fired one shot at the woman through a window.

He allegedly admitted pursuing her to Stu's Auto Service and wrestling with her over control of the firearm. Greuel told investigators he fired two more shots before the gun jammed and that he had to rack the slide to chamber another round.

He said he believed he had shot the woman in the abdomen or lower back, according to the complaint.

Greuel made his initial court appearance Aug. 19, when a $100,000 cash bond was set.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 2 at 8:30 a.m.
