CBS 58

OAK CREEK, Wis. (CBS 58) — A can of spray adhesive that fell into a textile dryer caused an explosion and small fire Thursday morning at Redwall Screen Printing in Oak Creek.

Authorities were called to the business on South 6th Street shortly after 9:30 a.m. for a report of an explosion.

The Oak Creek Fire Department said crews arrived to find heavy smoke inside the large commercial building, but no active fire.

All employees evacuated and were accounted for. Employees had used multiple fire extinguishers before firefighters arrived.

An investigation determined a can of spray adhesive fell into a textile dryer and exploded after being heated. The fire then spread from the dryer into an exhaust stack.

Crews ventilated the building to remove the smoke.

Five employees were evaluated at the scene but declined transport to a hospital. No firefighters or other first responders were injured.

The fire department said a damage estimate is not yet available.
