Greenfield man preserves free George Webb burger

GREENFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- When it comes to free burgers at George Webb in honor of 12 straight wins for the Brewers, thousands line up to fill their stomachs. However, that’s not the case for Todd Sum.

"It's just kind of cool to be a part of Brewer history, Milwaukee history, a little something different," said Sum, who's from Greenfield.

Sum preserved the last free "12 in a Row" prediction George Webb burger back in 2018, storing it with game day mementos. Now 7 years later, he's ready to add another to his collection.

Waiting in line Wednesday for the 2025 giveaway, Sum wanted to encapsule the moment forever. He was inspired by another loyal fan to create his one-of-a-kind piece of history.

"A guy that had the '87 burger, but he had it in a freezer," said Sum. "Wasn’t sure about that, so I thought hey I can do something better. Tried to come up with a better idea to preserve it."

His self-created process starts by drying out the burger and then spraying gloss to preserve it.

"Start spraying it, go around the whole thing and then I'll probably do this about I don’t know 50 times."

For one week he continues to spray the burger multiple times a day, ensuring it's ready to be on display for years to come.

"Not really important, just more fun, silliness," said Sum. "It's cool to be a little piece of Brewer history, Milwaukee history, George Webb history."

Sum's already planning ahead for the next set of big wins.

"If they do it again, hopefully not too often, because I don’t want to have too many burgers," said Sum. "But maybe something different the next time."
