'Got to beat him': Brewers fans still love Freddy Peralta, but 'not tonight'
CBS 58 ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (CBS 58) -- From Brewers ace to this year's ALCS MVP, it's been quite the journey for Freddy Peralta. And he'll take the mound Monday night for the Rays in Game 3.
Freddy Peralta spent eight seasons in Milwaukee, becoming a fan favorite and one of the Brewers' most dependable starters. Now he's pitching for Tampa Bay, with the Rays trying to keep their season alive.
Peralta gave Brewers fans plenty to cheer about, including nine strikeouts in a playoff win over the Cubs last October. But after eight seasons in Milwaukee, he's wearing a different uniform.
"Love him, but tonight we got to beat him," said Brewers fan Heather Von Ruden. "He's a good guy," Kyle Von Ruden said. "But not tonight."
They still have plenty of love for Freddy, but in the World Series, that only goes so far.
"He'll never be an enemy; he was great for us. But go Brewers!" Dan Luchsinger said.
Peralta has been fantastic for the Rays since coming over from the Mets, winning MVP of the American League Championship Series. He's also apparently changed his mechanics, so the Brewers hitters might not know him as well as they think.
