GURNEE, Ill. (CBS 58) -- Six Flags Great America is a terrifying place to be in October. It's about more than rollercoasters as ghouls haunt the place and scare guests in the most unexpected places.

Fright Fest can get a good scream out of almost anyone, even those who say they're not easily spooked.

This is Fright Fest's 32nd year, and it's still finding new ways to scare people.

This year, there are six haunted houses, and two of them are brand new. There are also nine scare zones throughout the amusement park.

"You never really know what lurks around every corner," said Rachel Kendziora, the communications specialist for Six Flags Great America. "So, while you're walking through different scare zones, you know you're in a scare zone, but you don't really know what's going to pop out at you, so it brings that excitement."

After 6 p.m., everyone and everywhere is fair game, not just inside the haunted houses.

"During the day on Saturdays and Sundays, we are kid friendly until about 5 p.m.," said Kendziora. "After 6 p.m., we show no mercy."

Kids Boo Fest takes place during the day on Saturdays and Sundays with Candy Corn Lane, hayrides and a not-so-scary story time.

This year, the amusement park is also hosting an Oktoberfest all month long with a relaxing patio and German foods.
