Four dogs at HAWS test positive for distemper virus

WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- HAWS, the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County, has segregated the shelter’s dog population to contain an incident of distemper virus brought in by new dogs.

HAWS was notified of a “possible exposure on the transport truck” of dogs from a facility in Tulsa, OK, which arrived in late April. A dog that was never at HAWS and transported to another shelter in the region tested positive for the distemper virus. The dog is doing well and responding to treatment.

Due to the positive distemper test, all dogs have been segregated and were tested. Results arriving on May 7 indicated that four dogs tested positive for distemper and are undergoing treatment.
