4 arrested after fights near Bradford Beach draw large law enforcement response
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) responded to Bradford Beach after fights broke out Monday night, May 25.
It happened around 8:30 p.m.
The sheriff's office says large groups of people were gathered at the beach for Memorial Day. They already had additional patrols in the area, as they anticipated crowds for the holiday weekend.
Officials say one 17-year-old boy was arrested after he originally ran away from sheriff's deputies. In another brawl, two 20-year-old women and an 18-year-old woman were taken into custody. The three women were cited and released.
All appeared to have minor injuries from their own scuffle; they were medically cleared by the Milwaukee Fire Department.
"I’m glad I wasn’t there! We were thinking about coming here yesterday, but decided it’s gonna be crazy because of Memorial Day," shared Daniel, a teacher enjoying the beach on Tuesday.
"The kids are nice. They're respectful, they order, say please and thank you. I'd hate for an isolated incident to really paint a bad picture for all of them... they have a lot of energy and don't know what to do with it. They're looking to have a safe space to get together and have a fun time." -- Al Musa
The fights happened near Moosa's on N. Lincoln Memorial Drive. The owner, Al Musa, said the business has been there seven years. He said he wasn't surprised, because "when you have a lot of people that congregate in the area, things are going to happen."
However, he says "the vast majority" of Moosa's customers are "kind and nice." He said, "They may play some music, they might dance, that's kind of what they do. But for the most part, it’s not anything that people should be overly worried about."
MCSO was seen patrolling the parking lot on Tuesday afternoon.
Musa is organizing a free yoga event on Saturday, with free custard afterwards. He says it's open to anyone interested, with the first session from 2-3 p.m., and the second from 4-5 p.m.
