MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police are investigating a shooting that killed a 35-year-old victim Wednesday night, Aug. 26.

It happened near N. 23rd and Vine Street around 10:45 p.m.

The victim, identified by family and the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office Thursday as Steven Steward, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the medical examiner's office, the shooting stemmed from a verbal and physical altercation. 

Steward's cousin tells us he was a hardworking man who did everything possible to care for his young daughter.
