Former Republican AG Brad Schimel planning run for Wisconsin Supreme Court

WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Former Republican Attorney General Brad Schimel is planning to run for the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Sources tell CBS 58 Schimel will make an announcement this Thursday at an event in Waukesha.

Schimel, a conservative who is now a Waukesha County Circuit judge, was elected attorney general in 2014, but lost his bid for reelection four years later. The next opening on the high court is coming in 2025, when liberal Justice Ann Walsh Bradley is expected to seek another 10-year term.

The state Supreme Court just flipped to a liberal majority of justices with this year's election of Janet Protasiewicz.
