Food for disadvantaged families to be distributed in Racine

The Yamaha Motor Corporation and Feed the Children will work together to distribute food and personal-care necessities to disadvantaged families in Racine this weekend.  On Saturday, July 25th organizers will host a parade from Yamaha Motor Corporation in Pleasant Prairie to the Racine County Food Bank.  At the end of the parade, distribution will begin of a tractor-trailer filled with food and supplies.

400 preselected families will take part.  Each will receive a 25-pound box of food and a 10-pound box of supplies like shampoo and personal-care items. Additionally, 500 backpacks filled with school supplies will be distributed to the families to help them prepare for going back to school.

Feed the Children says events like this will ensure thousands of children nationwide are not worrying about hunger.  The organization says nearly 14 percent of families in Racine live below the poverty line.

The parade begins at 9:00 a.m. at 10801 88th Ave. in Pleasant Prairie.  Distribution of the food and supplies will take place at 9:45 a.m.
