First Milwaukee streetcar to arrive March 26

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – The first Milwaukee streetcar is scheduled to arrive in the city on March 26.

On Friday, city leaders met to talk about updates on the project. Once the first car arrives, the four others will come to Milwaukee on a monthly basis.

When the first streetcar arrives, it will undergo testing inside a city facility for around two weeks. After that, the streetcar will be put on the tracks for test-runs.

“It’s all built in certain tolerances and specifications and obviously part of the testing is to find out if we met all of these tolerances, and what corrections if any, we have to make,” Department of Public Works commissioner Ghassan Korban said.

Leaders said around nine supervisor jobs have already been posted. They expect to begin the hiring process for streetcar operators by the end of April. All five cars are scheduled to be in service in November.
