Father Gene’s Help Center and Red Cross respond to flood recovery, launch school supply drive

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Father Gene’s Help Center is partnering with the American Red Cross to provide clothing for residents displaced by last weekend’s flooding. Shelters are operating at Holler Park and Washington Park.
The nonprofit is offering free new and gently used clothing to affected families.
Officials say the center has an urgent need for new women’s and children’s underwear and new athletic socks for all ages.
The center is also collecting backpacks and school supplies for at least two economically challenged schools this fall. Donations can be dropped off at 5919 W. Greenfield Ave. in West Allis from Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Organizers have collected more than 300 backpacks toward a goal of 500.
